On 5 Dec 2006, the GOES-13 SXI observed a spectacular coronal wave associated with an X9 flare on the East limb of the Sun. Because of the regularity and relatively high cadence of SXI imaging, this observation captures the global manifestation of the wave in a way never before seen. The images have now been carefully registered and de-scattered, revealing details of the event previously unseen and with more clarity than in the original data reduction. In particular, the phenomenology of the initial 15 minutes of the event is greatly enhanced, showing the launch of a powerful blast wave traveling at about 1500 km/s. This front, probably a fast MHD shock driven by the impulsive expansion of a coronal loop system, quickly slows down and spreads all the way across the Sun with speeds (300-400 km/sec) typical of EIT-like wave activity. Many secondary waves are generated as the initial front propagates, keeping the base of the corona in an agitated state for at least two hours. A key element driving such prolonged and spatially extended wave activity is the rapid increase in characteristic speeds with height above the solar surface. This property of the solar atmosphere tends to refract the wave fronts around the solar limb, effectively trapping much of the wave energy near the base of the corona.
