Scientific paper

The paper examines a technique for the diagnostics of electron density in the lower ionosphere which is based on the observation of optical emissions of molecular nitrogen. The emission is excited by electrons accelerated as a result of Ohmic heating of the plasma in the field of a high-power radio pulse. When the field strength is sufficient for additional ionization, the glow intensity reaches a value of dozens of mega-rayleighs.
