The atmospheric conditions on Kumbel mountain (near Tashkent, USSR), which is the site of the second of the International Research on the Interior of the Sun (IRIS) network instruments installed in August 1988 for measuring global oscillations are described along with the operating conditions of the IRIS instrument and the preliminary results from the station's solar oscillation measurements. The power specta obtained exhibit a very low level of noise for all frequency above 1 mHz, with the frequency resolution of the order of 23 microHz.
