Gliese 581 is a planetary system known to host at least three planets, one hot Neptune (16 Mearth), and two super-Earth (5 & 8 Mearth). The 5 Mearth planet resides in the warm edge of the habitable zone of the star and is thus the known exoplanet which most resemble our own Earth. The 8 Mearth orbits Gl581 at 0.25 AU and closes the cold edge of the habitable zone. I will describe the detection and properties of these planets, how they strengthens some already known statistical properties and how they mesh up with planetary formation theory.
