The paper reviews the main points of numerous recent work presenting observations and interpretations of the interactions and interrelations between geomagnetic storm and substorm phenomena and solar wind, IMF, geomagnetic tail, magnetosphere, atmospheric, and surface activities. References cited include observations of substorm-associated thinning and expansion of the plasma sheet at lunar distances, magnetic field observations from satellites in the magnetosphere during substorms and the detection of ring currents, reports on coordinated efforts at multispacecraft, multi-instrument correlations, synoptic descriptions of the high-latitude ionospheric electric field, and studies of auroral behavior during storms and substorms.
