Study of the generation of geomagnetic disturbances by the ballistic shock wave of a falling meteorite and by the shock wave formed by its possible explosion. In particular, the paper studies the mechanism for the production of geomagnetic disturbances through the coupling of acoustic and hydromagnetic modes, which is realized by the collision of neutral particles, set in motion by the acoustic wave, with charged particles. Analytic expressions are obtained, relating geomagnetic disturbance parameters to ionospheric parameters and those of the acoustic signal.
