Data on the change in revolution periods of a number of satellites because of drag in the atmosphere are analyzed. The correlation between the satellite drag and variations of the Kp and Dst indexes of geomagnetic activity is investigated taking into account the prehistory of the geomagnetic disturbance and the reaction-time characteristics of the atmosphere. Attention is given to mechanisms for structural changes of the thermosphere during geomagnetic disturbances.
