The electron density data obtained from Alouette I is examined for the individual passes to determine the geomagnetic and solar control of ionization at 1000 km. The solar zenith angle [chi] is chosen as a convenient solar parameter since it implicitly includes the effect of diurnal, seasonal and latitudinal variations. The magnetic effects are studied in terms of dip angle I. It is found that plasma frequency at 1000 km varies as cos2 I cos2 [chi]/2 in a linear way.
