142 samples were collected from the Malsburg Granite and country rock and analysed by X-ray fluorescence for the elements Ti, Zr, P, Sr, Ba, Rb and K. Na was determined by neutron activation analysis. The distributions of these elements within the pluton were evaluated by various statistical methods. The granite can be divided into zones of equal concentrations as follows: three zones for Na, four for Rb and K, and five for Ti, Zr, P, Sr and Ba. No divisions could be made on the basis of values for Ca. These zones allowed us to make some deductions concerning the intrusion mechanism and direction of differentiation. Information for the elements Ti, Zr and P, which are contained in the early minerals biotite, zircon and apatite, show that crystallization started at the margin and proceeded to the core.
