The problem of nonlinear sausages in a relativistic z-pinch is solved in the narrow channel approximation and the spectrum is calculated of particles accelerated when a plasma jet is extruded from the constriction. This spectrum has a power-law form dN/dE ≡ E-ν with an index ν = 1+√3 = 2.732 and turns out to be quite close to the observed spectrum of galactic cosmic rays (ν = 2.73), which makes the well-known hypothesis about their origin in cosmic plasma pinches quite likely.
