The paper analyzes the disturbance configuration of ionospheric currents as the result of a local change in the ionospheric conductivity during a sudden impulse (Si). The magnetic effect of such a disturbance is detected at the earth surface in the form of a preliminary Si. A local change in ionospheric conductivity during an Si may be one of the causes of the generation of damped pulsations with a period of 150-600 s and an amplitude of up to 100 nTl in the auroral zone.
