Experiments from the SIPLE station in Antarctica indicate that under certain conditions launched VLF signal can trigger larger amplitude secondary whistler waves and cause enhanced precipitation of the relativistic electrons. Normally, generation and amplification of secondary emissions is explained to be due to interactions between the initial VLF wave and energetic electrons in the inhomogeneous equatorial magnetosphere of the Earth, but the exact scaling laws are unknown. We present results from a numerical simulation study of such interactions. Our goal is to identify parameters of the distribution function describing energetic electrons and parameters of the initial whistler wave which are capable of producing secondary waves with amplitude larger than the initial wave. Simulations show that generation of secondary emissions can be achieved even in a simple, two-dimensional, homogeneous magnetosphere. In particular, it is shown that when the distribution function of the energetic particles is marginally stable, the initial VLF wave with a wavelength close to the wavelength of the most unstable harmonic can trigger secondary emissions with amplitude more than two times larger than the initial amplitude. Application of the results from our modeling efforts to the problem of stimulated precipitation of energetic electrons from the Earth's radiation belts is discussed.
