Results are discussed for spectroscopic observations of the fine structure of the solar chromosphere made during four flights of the Solar Stratospheric Observatory. An upward motion of photospheric magnetic elements and a broadening of chromospheric magnetic arcs were observed. The structure of these arcs is described, and it is noted that the broadening can be caused only by a magnetic pressure gradient in the chromosphere.
