The automatic stations Venera-4, 5, 6 and 8 were equipped with gas-analysis instruments to investigate the atmosphere of the planet Venus. The Venus atmosphere was analyzed and its chemical composition determined by direct methods for the first time in history. The physical-chemical methods and instruments used are described and the results of the experiments performed on Venus are made available.
