Gamma-Ray Bursts, Trigger Conditions

Scientific paper

We report on an on-line and off-line analysis of data from the Gamma-Ray Burst Monitor (GRBM) aboard the BeppoSAX satellite. The goal of this investigation is the identification of true celestial gamma-ray bursts among the transient events (e.g., ionizing particles, ionospheric flashes, solar flares, etc.) that are detected by the monitor. We discuss the constraints adopted for this identification and present results of this analysis. We also discuss the capability of the GRBM to provide an approximate direction of the GRB in the sky.
