The project on the 17m Ø telescope, dubbed MAGIC (Major Atmospheric Gamma Imaging Cherenkov Telescope), is dedicated for γ astrophysics in the energy range from 10-30GeV till 50-100TeV. MAGIC will for the first time allow to explore with very high sensitivity the energy range 10-300GeV and to bridge the existing energy gap between satellite and ground-based air Cherenkov measurements. We believe MAGIC will serve as a prototype for future multi-telescope γ ray observatories.
