The present two-volume collection of papers on Mars exploration discusses precursors and early piloted exploration missions, and Martian base building, colonization, and terraformation. Attention is given to the Mars sample return mission with ISPP; use of Martian atmosphere constituents by temperature-swing adsorption; Athena, a possible first step in a program of human Mars exploration; and a scenario of life at Mars Base 1. Other topics addressed include the utility of geothermal energy on Mars, technological requirements for terraforming Mars, and ozone and the habitability of Mars.
