An analysis is presented which studies the effects of mass transfer on the free convective flow of a viscous, incompressible fluid, past a vertical infinite porous, limiting surface when the free stream velocity is given uniform acceleration from a given value of the velocity. It is assumed that the temperature of the limiting surface changes with step-wise variations and the species concentration is a linearly growing mass. The solution of the problem is obtained in a closed form using the Laplace transform technique when the Prandtl and Schmidt numbers are equal to one. Expressions are derived for the velocity, temperature, species concentration and related qualities, and some numerical calculations are carried out for the non-dimensional velocity and the skin-friction for different values of the dimensionless parameters entering into the problem.
