Fractal analysis constitutes an alternative means for examining processes with a power-law power spectrum density (PSD), being both simpler and more efficient than Fourier methods. While Fourier methods require about Nlog(2)N multiplications and additions as well as trigonometric functions for N data points, fractal analysis uses only about Nlog(2)N additions and positive-difference operations. Fractal analysis results are, however, quantitatively inferior to those from spectral analysis.
