A rapid-scan Fourier spectrometer of the Michelson or lamellar grating type on spin-stabilized infrared Explorers is considered launched by a Delta vehicle into a highly eccentric or escape orbit. The mirrors of the 38 cm Cassegrain telescope and the spectrometer are to be cooled to 10 K by solid hydrogen. A broadband bolometer detector should be cooled to temperatures below 5 K, and a pointing accuracy of some 10 arcsec should be sustained over several hours for the detailed study of individual objects.
