Using numerical simulations we examine how reconnection causes the formation of eruptive magnetic configurations in the corona. We describe the topology of the global velocity field which results from the co-rotational flows imposed at the photospheric boundary. Such velocity profile is shown to force the magnetic field lines to twist, reconnect and expand outwards forming configurations that posess features present in CME observations. The topological changes caused by reconnection are discussed in detail.
