Statistical considerations and periodic patterns of seismicity supply evidence that hazardous shock(s) of Ms ⋍ 6.8-8.0 must be expected in the next few years at depths of ~ 80-100 km of the South Aegean Benioff zone. Space-time characteristics indicate that the most likely location of the next event is one of the two earthquake nests at the central and eastern earthquake sections of the zone. From the history and a lithospheric model of the region, the most probable locations of maximum intensity are along the convex arc side.
