Observed Forbush decreases in the intensity of low-energy (1 to 30 MeV) cosmic-ray protons of solar and galactic origin are discussed. It is shown that for solar cosmic rays, a general decline in intensity is always observed after the decay phase of a Forbush decrease. Some typical examples of Forbush decreases in the intensity of solar cosmic-ray protons are examined, and an experimentally obtained energy spectrum of a Forbush decrease in solar proton intensity is analyzed. A 'spurious' Forbush decrease in solar proton intensity is also described which is believed to have been caused by the passage or formation of an interplanetary inhomogeneity between the sun and the point of observation.
