The F/48 detector of the Faint Object Camera presents serious anomalies. Detector experts have determined that these anomalies are due to a single cause: a discharge of the high voltage associated with the three stage image intensifier tube. One of the open questions is the exact location of the discharge: If the discharge is due to a flare inside the tube OR if it is due to a crack in the potting around the tube. The Dark and INFLAT exposure are needed to determine dark current and image distortion while the histogram data are needed to determine the location of the discharge by analysing the histrogram of the event size distribution.
