A different approach to the proton-atmosphere interaction problem is presented which allows calculation of the proton ionization, the ionization produced by the generated secondary electrons, and the corresponding fluxes as a function of height and energy simultaneously. Previously published analytical formulas and parameters are used in calculating the inelastic cross sections for protons and H atoms, as well as the differential cross sections for proton and H ionization and the electron cross section. Ionization rates for different incident proton energies are calculated, with the contribution due to protons and resulting electrons being obtained at each step.
