The development of accurate numerical models for the determination of the environment of space vehicles entering planetary atmospheres requires validation through experiments in ground-test facilities such as the SR5 plasma wind-tunnel. However, in such arc-jet facilities, the flow parameters in the plasma generator are typically unknown. Undertaking fluid mechanics calculations in order to determine the internal plasma flow parameters is therefore necessary as usually it is difficult to perform measurements inside such plasma generators. This allows to have a better understanding of the underlying physics of such high velocity and high enthalpy flows, and namely to determine the flow macroscopic parameters at the exit of the plasma generator, were experiments are usually carried out.
