The alignment-accuracy requirements for the LEO-terminal of the ESA project Semiconductor Intersatellite Link EXperiment are examined, showing that the accuracy will suffer due to two factors: thermoelastic deformation of the interface structure, producing a tilting of the optical terminal; and shrinking of the interface structure due to moisture release of the selected material CFRP, also resulting in tilting of the terminal. Theoretical solutions for these problems are obtained and technical solutions are proposed. It is shown that the use of local interface adapters at each connection will alleviate the problem of integrating the terminal with the tight tolerance fixation slots on the host satellite.
