Photoelectric UBVRI polarimetry of 16 Psyche was carried out with the 125 cm reflector on June 4 and 5, 1983, when the line of sight was nearly along the rotation axis, so as to ascertain whether the surface particles might have a preferential orientation. Data analysis reveals no significant periodicities in the Stokes parameters q, u with respect to rotation phase, implying that the grains are not systematically misaligned with the rotation axis. The depth P(min) of the negative branch of the polarization phase curve for M-type asteroids increases toward the long-wave end of the 0.37-0.83 micron wavelength range.
