The perturbations induced by a monochromatic gravitational wave on a
static electromagnetic field are calculated in a Fermi normal coordinate
system. It is shown that the perturbations are transverse with respect
to the propagation direction of the wave and there is no interaction
between the wave and the static longitudinal electromagnetic field.
