An analysis of intense showers in the Catalogue of highest cosmic rays (Watson et al., 1980) shows that, at energies above 10 to the 19th eV, the rho600 parameter has a maximum in the zenith-angle range of 30-35 deg. For this reason, a standard formula for determining rho300 for oblique showers is inapplicable. The utilization of this formula leads to an overly high value of rho600.
