The eigenmodes of whistlers and the extent of the whistler attenuation caused by tunnel transformation into untrapped branches are investigated analytically for axially symmetric ducts of high plasma density aligned with the magnetic field. Particular attention is given to waves having frequencies close to one-half the electron gyrofrequency. A simple formula for determining the frequency above which a given mode will not exist, that is, the critical frequency, is obtained, as is an expression for the limiting frequency for the waveguide propagation of whistlers in a duct.
