Results are presented for measurements of geomagnetic pulsation activity (dPi's) at two conjugate stations at Halley Bay and St. Anthony. Arrival time difference of dPi's is interpreted as the difference in the time taken for the initial disturbance caused by the impulse which generates Pi oscillation to travel from its origin in the magnetosphere to the ends of the field line, assuming that the initial impulse occurs preferentially in the southern hemisphere. Hodograms of the horizontal polarization of dPi's are analyzed for the symmetry properties predicted from 'vibrating string' analogy. The two distinctive features of the hodograms are that (1) if first arrivals are used as time references for the comparison of symmetry at opposite ends of the field line, odd mode is indicated as being predominant; and (2) compared synchronously, even mode predominates. The apparent contradiction of the two observations can be resolved in terms of traveling and standing waves.
