Superluminal Motions: Radio Sources, Superluminal Motions: Supernovae

Scientific paper

Apparent motions at speeds exceeding that of light occur in several different types of astronomical object. They are straightforward to understand as a consequence of the finite velocity of light, and can be used as probes of physical conditions. Two examples are described: superluminal motion in extragalactic radio sources and light echoes around supernovae.
