A relation of the facular structures of polar auroras to geomagnetic pulsations has been shown on the basis of auroral and magnetic data. According to the results of model calculations it turned out that the facular structures are projected onto the equatorial plane of the magnetosphere at a distance of 5 - 10 RE from the earth. The existing explanations of the mechanisms of formation of facular structures are discussed.
