Lightweight and high performance mirrors are currently required for telescope systems. Today, a lower cost option is available with aluminum-alloy blanks, especially for large size (more than about 2-m), with a combination of active supports to compensate any distortions. This paper deals only with the properties of the substrate, manufactured by FORTECH.
