The F-region dynamo is examined to explain anomalous variations of the magnetic D-component observed by MAGSAT. Meridional currents caused by neutral pressure gradients can well reproduce this event, including the dependence on solar activity. Eastward winds are also consistent with these observations. The role of the F-region dynamo is discussed in relation to electric fields and currents in the whole ionosphere.
