We are attempting to establish a small working observatory using the modest facilities available at DePauw's McKim Observatory. Our goal is to determine whether with the use of a modern CCD these facilities will be capable of research grade photometry. We are using a SBIG ST-6 CCD camera mounted on a standard 11" Celestron reflector. We will present a discussion of the issues faced in setting up the system. In addition we hope to present a preliminary examination of our Markarian 421 photometry. Mkn 421 is one of the brightest BL Lac objects with a magnitude that varies around 13. These light curves will eventually be used in comparison with TeV gamma ray observations from the cherenkov air shower array telescope on Mt. Hopkins.
