The paper presents results of a radio-telescope study of the solar-wind transition region conducted in June 1988. The region in which the supersonic flow was generated was found to be of greater extent than previously thought. A region of increased scattering was observed along with an increase in the scattering properties of the near-solar plasma in the region of R = 20-40 solar radii.
