Over the last two solar cycles the incoherent scatter radars of the EISCAT Scientific Association have made important contributions to the current understanding of the near Earth space environment. An accelerating trend over the last few years has been toward more continuous operation, and during September 2005, the tri-static EISCAT UHF system in northern Scandinavia and the EISCAT Svalbard radar (ESR) outside Longyearbyen, Svalbard, ran continuously as part of a 30-day coordinated worldwide incoherent scatter interval. These two long, high quality time series open up a range of new possibilities for the study of ionospheric dynamics, and magnetosphere-ionosphere coupling from sub-second plasma instabilities, up to multi-day tides. They are especially valuable in conjunction with similar data sets obtained by the Sondrestrom Radar, in Greenland, and the Millstone Hill radar in New England. Newly installed additional plasma line receivers at the EISCAT Svalbard Radar also allow the routine, accurate, calibration of the electron density measurements provided by the system - ensuring that the densities are absolute values, an important consideration in ionospheric modeling studies. The UHF data have also been careful calibrated using a locally sited Dynasonde together with plasma line measurements where available. The September 2005 run takes advantage of many of the unique features of the EISCAT systems, combining vector velocity measurements obtained from the tri-static EISCAT UHF system in the auroral zone with the EISCAT Svalbard Radar's multi-position ion and plasma line data in the polar cusp and cap. In this poster we will present example data from both the tri-static EISCAT UHF radar and the EISCAT Svalbard Radar, and show some examples of the range of phenomenon to be studied using such long runs.
