A self-consistent universe picture is developed, leading to the extended Mach principle that the origin of all the laws of physics lies with the universe as a whole. The meaning of symmetry of the laws of physics and symmetry of the universe and the connection between symmetries and asymmetries of the laws of physics and those of the universe is discussed in general and for specific cases. An explanation of Hamilton's principle is offered. Predictions of the model are presented. It is suggested that the material is very suitable for informal discussions with students.
