The temperature distribution in a nonflare solar X-ray source is derived from the observationally deduced exponential temperature dependence of plasma differential emission measure on the assumption of a barometric decrease in electron density with a constant scale height. An analytical model of the coronal X-ray source is developed on the basis of X-ray observations of a coronal condensation. The physical processes that cause a substantial density increase in the highest-temperature coronal filaments are briefly discussed.
