The infrared Spitzer Space Telescope is the last of NASA's Great
Observatories. Highlights of the first results from the Infrared
Spectrograph (IRS) Extragalactic Team are given. The main focus of this
paper is a demonstration of the unprecedented sensitivity of the IRS,
which makes observations of distant, dust enshrouded galaxies possible.
