MoonNEXT is a mission to the Lunar South pole, whose launch is planned between 2015 and 2018. The mission is being studied within the framework of the Aurora Exploration Programme and is intended to pave the way for future lunar exploration and address important and unresolved science questions. MoonNEXT will land at the Lunar South pole at the edge of the Aitken basin. The spacecraft will perform autonomous soft precision landing with hazard avoidance, which is a key capability for future exploration missions in general. After landing various investigations will be carried out, to prepare for future lunar exploration activities and advance our understanding of the origin, structure and evolution of the Moon.
