Interplanetary Magnetic Field: Geomagnetic Field, Geomagnetic Field: Variations

Scientific paper

Data obtained at high-latitude stations are used to analyze the daily and seasonal variations in the geomagnetic field under various polarities of the sectors in the interplanetary magnetic field. The authors obtain a qualitative estimate of the contribution from known current systems to these variations. They show that the geomagnetic effect of the interplanetary magnetic field sectors on the polar cap involves changes in the return current for the auroral electrojets and development of a polar electrojet.
