The beam species and intensities available at a next generation radioactive beam facility will open many new opportunities for nuclear astrophysics. Contrary to similar studies with stable beams, the majority of these experiments has to be performed in 'inverse kinematics', i.e. bombarding hydrogen or helium targets with beams of heavier short-lived nuclei. For this, new equipment optimized for low-cross-section measurements needs to be developed. Some of the difficulties encountered in direct and indirect measurements of nuclear reactions at astrophysical energies will be discussed.
