The equilibrium temperature for the reaction: 1 tremolite + 11 dolomite 8 forsterite + 13 Calcit + 9 CO 2 + 1 H 2 O was experimentally determined as a function of the CO 2 -content of the CO 2 -H 2 O fluid phase for the total pressures of 500 and 1000 bars. The results are plotted as two isobaric equilibrium curves in the temperature- X CO 2 -diagram of Fig. 2. The equilibrium data, obtained for the reaction running to the right of the equation, were checked and confirmed by experiments for the backward reaction. If the fluid phase contains more than 25 mol. % CO 2 , then the equilibrium temperature for the above reaction lies within the temperature interval of 510 ± 30° C at the total pressure of 500 bars, and within the temperature interval of 535 ± 25° C at the total pressure of 1000 bars. At nearly the same temperatures (515 ± 15° C at 500 bar and 530 ± 10° C at 1000 bar total pressure) diopside forms from tremolite, calcite and quartz. The first appearance of diopside marks the transition from the albite--epidote-hornfels facies to the hornblende-hornfels facies. According to the results of this paper, this facies boundary is also characterized by the first appearance of the paragenesis forsterite + calcite at pressures of 500 and 1000 bars.
