A new method is proposed for generating artificial barium ion clouds in the atmosphere whereby barium vapor is produced by the reaction between barium peroxide and group V metals. It has been demonstrated experimentally that the barium vapor yield achieved by using this method is higher than that obtainable by any of the previously used methods. The method also has a number of additional advantages, such as the fact that barium vaporizers can be loaded directly before the experiments and are sufficiently safe during storage and transportation.
