Due to the lack of the availability of a suitable detector technology in infrared region, how to convert a two-dimensional infrared image to the visible region with high resolution has many exciting applications in imaging, sensing, night-vision, and astrophysics fields. As a result, there is a strong demand for practical schemes that can efficiently convert the infrared light into the visible light, where, highly sensitive and low-noise radiation detectors are readily available. So far, there is no any experimental report about the upconversion of an image via an atomic system. In this paper, we for the first time to our best knowledge demonstrate experimentally the upconversion of a light carrying an image from the infrared radiation to the visible light using four-wave mixing in an atomic vapour. Furthermore, we discuss the possible influences on the resolution from the experimental parameters.
