Measurements conducted with the ASPERA-4 instrument of the Venus Express spacecraft provide values for the density and the speed of proton and oxygen ions in the Venus wake. Calculations of the momentum flux of both ion components derived from data obtained in various orbits lead to profiles that have a similar shape and peak at nearly the same value. The momentum flux profile obtained for the oxygen ion component shows in addition a lower intensity maximum that peaks at lower values and that is independent of the main peak of the profile. The agreement in the position and shape of the latter peak with respect to those of the peak in the momentum flux profile of the proton ion population is consistent with effects produced by momentum transport between both ion components.
