The objective of the study presented here was to improve the design of the Hot Ion Analyzer (HIA) sensor for the Cluster Ion Spectrometer experiment. Experimental and simulated transmission functions are compared for two configurations of the sensor: one with a concave hat and the other with a flat hat. The flat-hat configuration is found to have a better energy resolution and a larger FWHM of the polar angle distribution. Moreover, the entire energy distribution is shifted toward higher energies in the flat-hat configuration.
